APTA Spotlights Model Notices Developed To Ensure HIPPA Compliance
The American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) notes that to assist healthcare providers in creating a HIPAA-compliant Notice of Privacy Practice, the federal government has developed model notices designed to allow customization, reproduction, and distribution in print or electronically to patients.
The APTA states that the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA) is designed to provide patients the right to be informed of the privacy practices of their healthcare providers, health plans, and of their privacy rights regarding personal health information. Providers and plans are required to notify patients of these rights.
In a recent news release, the APTA states that by using a model notice, healthcare professionals will be assured that they are providing the information in compliance with the regulations and that the notice reflects recent regulatory changes to the HIPPA privacy and security rules.
